SMP 54: The Art Of Coaching With Dan John
World-renowned strength coach Dan John joins Seb and Josh today to talk about the principles behind his Art of Coaching workshops and his book, Can You Go?. This is Dan’s second book and he is hoping to write a third one this year. Today, Dan talks about ways coaches and trainers can assess their clients and then create a program that places the focus on what that person needs, (and even some of what they want), in a fitness or training program.
IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL LEARN:
- Dan’s 5-4-3-2-1 principle
- Assesment for mobility, body composition, and strength
- What the pillow test and the plank test reveal
- Asking the right questions to gain insight into the person you are training
- Ten essential things a trainer or coach should encourage their clients to do outside of their workouts
- What Dan means by sex drive, thrive and survive
Dan is not writes books, but he is also an avid reader. Dan thinks trainers need to be knowledgeable about finances and he suggests the book, The Richest Man in Babylon. When asked if he was on a deserted island with just one book, what would he chose, Dan said The Once and Future King. Find out more about Dan at his website, danjohn.net. Dan will have several Art of Coaching workshops coming up. Check out Dan John Strength Coach on Facebook. For any of Dan’s books and bonus materials head over to this website.
