SMP 59: How To Get A Sub 65 Minute Half Marathon

 In Podcast, Uncategorized

Welcome to episode 58 of the Strength Matters Podcast.

We just had our Strength Matters Summit and it was a huge success. Thanks to all of the trainers and speakers. The Summit is on tour and we’re heading to San Diego, Boston, Seattle and New York in early 2016. You can get details about the tour and buy tickets online.

Today we’re talking to a top runner from New Zealand, a long distance runner, who has just recently beaten the half marathon 65 minute mark which is a huge benchmark in long distance running. He clocks over 100 miles a week when training. We hope you enjoy our talk with Oska Baynes.

Oska runs mostly twice a day, has been running for 5 or 6 years and is getting better and better every day.

“There’s something about being able to do something when you do more you get better at it” – Oska

When asked what the end game was, Oska says the pinnacle would be an Olympic marathon – after that he could retire.

In This Episode We’ll Talk About:

  • His love of running
  • Inspirations
  • Goals
  • Training regimes
  • Recovery
  • Nutrition

“We’re creatures of habit – you just sort of get up and you go and do it.” – Oska

We’ve had a great time and some really useful tips for those interested in marathon and distance running. For Oska, it’s all about next July and the marathon on the gold coast. We wish him the very best as he works toward his goals.

“Enjoy it. Whatever you’re doing, enjoy it.” – Oska

In closing, we just want to let you know that New Zealand is the only country allowed to put hobbits on their currency, there are no land snakes native or otherwise in New Zealand and New Zealand was the first country to introduce commercial bungee jumping.
